Backorders, partial fulfillment and available to promise
Ship what you have now and keep track of what you still owe.
Overview
What it does
When an order comes in short on stock, ship what's on hand and hold the rest as a tracked backorder. It shows up on your reorder list, turns into a linked purchase order in one click, and closes out when that stock arrives.
- Fulfill a short order and it ships the units you have, then holds the shortfall as a backorder instead of quietly selling stock you don't own.
- Backordered items get their own section on the reorder list, even for products you don't normally keep on hand.
- Turn a backorder into a purchase order in one click. It stays linked, so anyone in buying or reports can see it's handled.
- Receiving that purchase order closes the backorder, and the final units ship when you're ready.
- Confirmed orders reserve stock, so availability always reflects what's already promised and you never oversell.
- Kits reserve their components, so bundles never oversell a shared part.
How it works
Backorders in three steps
- 1
Sell it
Fulfill an order you're short on. We ship the units you have and record the rest as a backorder.
- 2
Order it
Backorders collect on the reorder list. Pick them and raise a purchase order that stays linked to each one.
- 3
Close it
Once the purchase order is received, the backorder is marked covered and the remaining units are ready to ship.
